Welcome to the place where your two bloggers ask each other one question each week. We hope you enjoy them as your learn a bit more about us – sometimes we even learn more about each other!

Ray’s question to Karen:

Q: What is your favorite holiday meal?

A: It has to be turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy. It is always what we have at Thanksgiving, but it is just as appropriate on Christmas Day. I think it is delicious, but it also incorporates so many feelings about family and time well spent that it automatically tops the list.

Karen’s Question to Ray:

Q: What is your worst kitchen disaster?

A: A few thoughts come to mind. Right up there at the top would be the time I forgot to add sugar to the family sugar cookie recipe – I mean seriously, the ingredient is right in the name! But I can do one better – I’d have to go with the time I decided to make my grandma’s pumpkin bread recipe with fresh pumpkin puree made by me.

Everyone used to bring her pumpkins for her to use for her pies and pumpkin bread and she would clean and process them all and roast the seeds for the person who brought them to her. I’d seen her puree the pumpkins dozens of times and thought it would be a fun way to bring me closer to her since she was no longer with us. I went through all of the same steps and when I got to the final step, pureeing the cooked pumpkin in the blender, it happened…

Now I know better than to throw a very hot item in the blender and turn it on because of the pressure that comes when the steam is released, but I was clearly too caught up in the moment. So into the blender went very hot pumpkin, on went the lid, on went the power and about 5 seconds later the lid blew right off of the blender and sprayed pumpkin all over the counter and walls and cabinets of my brand new apartment!

I’m sure an expletive or two flew out of my mouth first, but then I began to laugh because my grandmother was a sweet woman with a terrific sense of humor and that’s just what she would have done! Luckily none of that scalding hot splattering pumpkin landed on me!
