Welcome to the place where your two bloggers ask each other one question each week. We hope you enjoy them as your learn a bit more about us – sometimes we even learn more about each other!
Ray’s question to Karen:
Q: Is your love for cooking something you’ve always had, or something you grew into?
A: To be honest, I still don’t always love to cook! It’s always been that way. If I am making something that I am excited about and am in the mood to make, I love it. I love that feeling of being creative. If it is just ordinary hum drum weeknight dinner, it’s more of a chore. Tom and I nearly always cook together, which makes it infinitely more enjoyable.
Karen’s Question to Ray:
Q: Do you remember your first cookbook?
A: I can clearly remember a children’s cookbook in our house when we were growing up, but I can’t recall the name of it – maybe my sister or brother will remember the name and add it to the comments! I remember two of the simple recipes very clearly – vanilla milk and cinnamon toast.
I also remember my mother had a collection of books called “Family Circle Illustrated Library of Cooking.” It was one of those deals where you could buy a new volume from the grocery store every couple of weeks. I believe the full set had 16 volumes – mom made it all the way to number 5 I think! I’m happy she got that far because the 5th volume featured a section called “Children’s Hour: Grownup Recipes Children Can Make.” I remember making a shrimp dip that was featured in that section when I was 7 or 8 years old and feeling like I was some sort of accomplished chef when I was done!
